The Castle

Claude Nicolas Ledoux was the architect of Benouville’s castle. It was built between 1768 and 1785.

This castle first belong to the Marquis of Livry but in 1927, the Calvados’ General Council acquired it and it became a maternal house for pregnant women in need and for abandoned and disabled children. Until the end of the seventies, children in care were taken in the maternity hospital.

In 1985, after rehabilitation, it became the office of the “Chambre Regionale des Comptes”

Since 1990, you can visit the castle as well as some exhibitions during the Summer.
